“I love Disability Sports Coach’s online sessions. They are helping to keep me fit, healthy and connected with people.”

- Sam, Home Activity Programme participant

Sam (20) might be one of our newest members, but he is also one of the most enthusiastic! Sam has attended our online sessions since April, and since has rarely missed one. He participates in DSC Live sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as our Social Saturdays catch-ups.

Sam’s mum, Ros, comments:

"Disability Sports Coach Zoom sessions are the highlight of Sam's week. They stop him from feeling isolated during lockdown and are helping him to keep fit, both physically and mentally."

Sam discovered Disability Sports Coach’s online sessions via Facebook, thanks to the Camden Disability Parents group. Sam is one of many new members who we hope will not only continue to use our #DSCAtHome programme, but also attend a DSC Community Club when it is safe for them to open again.

Feedback has demonstrated that the social benefits of our sessions, are just as important as the physical. Sam’s mum explains how the sessions provide “all-important social interaction with other young people like him". Sam, too, tells us that the sessions keep him “connected with people.”

What do we do in the sessions?

DSC Live sessions consist of half an hour of coach led physical activity. Sports delivered so far include, basketball, Pilates, dance, boxing and athletics. We sometimes use simple sports equipment or household objects, but all you really need is a small space at home to take part.

The Social Saturday and Friday Quiz sessions are a chance for all our members to socialise, with different topics discussed each week.

“The coaches are all fantastic and really encourage the young people to try out different exercises. I couldn’t recommend them more highly.”

- Ros

All of our online sessions are FREE and open to all disabled people nationally. To join Sam and many others at the sessions, please register here.
