St.Pauls with St.Lukes Primary in Tower Hamlets go the extra mile to support SEN pupils

The school takes an hour out of curriculum time to support two SEND pupils at our Community Club in Tower Hamlets. Every Tuesday, Tiffany and Eliot attend the multi-sports session at Mile End Leisure Centre. The pan-disability session is open to all young people and adults.

St. Pauls with St. Lukes SENCO, Bremila Thavarajah, said “my pupils love the sessions. As well as developing motor and fitness skills, the pupils gain a greater sense of independence. It is important for them to get out into their local community, so they have the confidence to access such services in the future.”

Both Tiffany and Eliot commented that the session is “fun” and would “recommend the session to other children.” Tiffany also said, “attending the sports sessions has given me more confidence in PE, as I have extra time to improve.”

We urge other schools, to think about what local sports opportunities their SEND pupils could get involved in, to enhance both their physical and social development. This can be in curriculum time, similar to Tiffany and Eliot’s experience, or outside of school hours.
