Did you know that today is Small Charity, Big Impact day?! This very special awareness day is part of Small Charities week, which seeks to recognise the important work that small charities do across the UK.

As a small charity ourselves, we know exactly how vital organisations of a smaller size can be.

Over the past three years, Disability Sports Coach has provided over 5,000 hours of high-quality sports and physical activity for disabled people in London and beyond – and whilst lockdown meant suspending our Community Clubs, we knew that our members needed us more than ever.

Luckily, our #DSCAtHome programme has continued to have a big impact for our members. Back in March, we created our very own inclusive Home Activity Programme including activity cards, live online sessions, social catch-ups and an equipment pack.

In just a couple of months, we’ve provided over 630 minutes of online activities that existing and new members alike have enjoyed in the safety of their own home. We have also sent out over 320 home equipment packs, full of useful kit for keeping active. Our Home Activity Programme has already had over 267 downloads from all over the world. We’ve also kept in contact with our members with almost 500 minutes of phone calls and check-ins.

In total, we have already reached over 500 people. And we’re not stopping any time soon!

Long-time member, Alexandra, has found our #DSCAtHome programme invaluable in helping her to adjust to the changes under lockdown. Her mum, Emma, explains, “Alexandra has a real desire to learn and her movement skills are constantly improving.”

New members are also finding the programme incredibly beneficial. New member Sam Innes says: “I love Disability Sports Coach’s online sessions. They are helping to keep me fit, healthy and connected with people.”

Take a look at our brand new infographic to see how our small charity has had a big impact on disabled people since lockdown.

We want to keep reaching more people with our vital activity resources and supportive community network. To help us send out even more home activity packs and develop this important project even further, please considering donating to us or fundraising for Disability Sports Coach.
