Disability Sports Coach presents our Inclusive Summer of Sport, a series of Paralympic-themed sessions in-person and online throughout August celebrating our community.
Our Inclusive Summer of Sport is a series of pan-disability sports events celebrating the Paralympics, and the power of community in making sport inclusive.
Every summer, we host an inclusive festival to bring together members and friends of our Community Clubs across 14 London boroughs, but this year we are taking a hybrid approach.
Our Inclusive Summer of Sport is all about celebrating the grassroots disability sport community. After 18 months of lockdowns, facilities are finally open, and many are beginning to feel confident enough to return to in-person sport.
So, we are transforming our Community Clubs into a summer festival of inclusive sport, whilst also holding some special online sessions for those who still feel safer at home.
If the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us anything, it’s that community is a key factor in getting disabled people active in a long-term, sustainable way.
Our community research found that over 50% of members felt the COVID-19 restrictions had caused them to be less active. However, around 75% also said that being part of their local Disability Sports Coach Community Club made them feel less isolated.
By bringing the community together to play sport and have fun, our sessions create a sense of belonging, whilst motivating members to keep coming back to see their friends, meanwhile making physical activity a part of their daily lives.
Our 2021 Summer Festival will showcase our community at its best, demonstrating the importance of continuing to invest in inclusive sport at the grassroots level.
Throughout August, we will be running a series of special Paralympic-themed sports days at our Community Clubs across London, along with additional events in collaborations with partners.
We are also running an Virtual Inclusive Sport Festival on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th August, which will consist of online sports sessions like dance and boxing, creative activities such as baking, influencer sessions, a panel and celebratory opening and closing ceremonies.
